Review: Clinique 'Chubby Stick' Moisturising Lip Colour Balm
I can hear shouting left, right and centre for being so late on the bandwagon with these. I am always careful with where my money goes if I desire high end beauty products and I will freely admit this was a sample version I received in the recent issue of Glamour magazine. Nevertheless I had always had my eye on them, so maybe it's worth just sharing my thoughts on it!
The shade I tried is '07 Super Strawberry'. It's a lovely shade of sheeny, pale, plummy-reddish pink, and what I like so much about the Chubby Stick is it is quite buildable, so whether you want just a little hint of colour in your lips or a lot, you've got the chance to get it the way you want it. Having done a bit of background reading though, a fair amount of people said they didn't feel there was enough pigment in the balm and were more impressed by the 'Intense' version, where the colours were better represented by the packaging and there was an improved colour pay-off.
As for the moisturising factor, I haven't noticed anything too dramatic - my lips have been very dry recently, and though the product feels nice and creamy when on the lips, it doesn't really work wonders for them once it wore off. Maybe that's just me but I can't fault it too much, because it does make my dry areas feel a lot nicer while I'm wearing it.
The cost of a Clinique Chubby Stick rolls in at £17.00 which isn't too steep, but there are definitely some lovely looking high-street alternatives I'd like to try, such as the Rimmel London Colour Rush balms which smell AMAZING, and the Revlon ColorBurst Balms which contain mango and shea butters just like the Clinique one!
All in all though, if you're looking for a fun way to apply lip balm with a wide range of wearable colours, check the Chubby Sticks out - it only took me, like, two years to realise I quite like them!
