The 1975 at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire

As promised!

On Friday September 20th my best friend, her dad and I went to see The 1975 in concert. The whole atmosphere was fantastic!

We were welcomed with a supporting act, a band that goes by the name of MMX. In the words of my best friend it was 'music you can just listen to all day without ever getting bored of it'. It was very electronic and powerful, at times reminding me of Coldplay. The second support was a band called Night Engine. I preferred MMX myself, but Night Engine were the ones who got everyone clapping and swaying before The 1975 arrived.

As soon as the main act began the enormous lighting production dazzled me and my ears couldn't determine different sounds anymore. Suddenly it was all mingling together. You know when instruments are so amazing live it sounds like thousands of people are singing all at once? Guys. This actually happened.

The set-list was awesome - they played all of my favourites - although I thought it could have been longer. 'Girls' and 'Chocolate' were the best performances in my opinion, because these were the songs where the crowd was at its most buzzing. The lights were also at their most intense at this point and as you've already established, lights are my muse!

The finale was also a highlight as I've never seen anyone jump on top of a kick drum and dance around on it with a guitar still strapped over their chest. Hats off to Matt Healy!

I wasn't quite so happy with the organisation of changeover when it came to the support acts because once it was set up no one appeared on stage for ten to fifteen minutes, but I'm not going to dock points as it was all well worth the wait.
The whole night was just manic and I was seeing flashing lights and that iconic 'The 1975 Rectangle' everywhere I looked afterwards.

(I mentioned the lights again. Here they are in action. Kinda hurts my eyes to look at now!)

If you love your electronics but still want a good ole groove, The 1975 are perfect for you and if you're actually seeing them any time soon, just remember Gemma is back home wishing she was there with you.

(Also, I'm leaving you with a picture of me revealing my wizard self.)
