Music Video Review: 'Panic Cord', Gabrielle Aplin

by - 14:29

I've been a fan of Gabrielle's since spotting her music video for 'Home' on the YouTube channel she started out on and I've been listening to her music ever since.

Now she's on the music scene, fully signed and she's as amazing as ever. Remember that soft, angelic voice from the heart-meltingly cute John Lewis Christmas advert about the snow man and woman in love? That's her.

'Panic Cord' was originally part of an EP called 'Never Fade'. On the EP it's less upbeat than the new version of the single which has more of a folky element to it with a more prominent guitar, which isn't something to complain about at all since she's a natural with the instruments she plays.

As with all of Gabrielle's music videos...'PANIC CORD' IS SO PRETTY! Check them all out - if you like cute fairy lights, beautiful landscapes and various displays of romance and affection you will love this collection of videos.

In 'Panic Cord' Gabrielle is looking rather wistful as she looks back over memories she had with someone she wishes she never let go. The atmosphere is very light and airy, which adds to the happy scenes (baking...toasting marshmallows...cute!), but mixed in are the moments where the characters are significantly unhappy with their relationship. The bedroom scene is a particularly difficult situation - the awkward glances at one another say it all. And the sunset at the end is symbolic for the end of the road for the two of them.

Gabrielle writes her songs in a very autobiographical way which, for me, is the best way to write because it's very easy to connect with. It provides comfort knowing someone else had to take the blame for things even when it's hard to admit to.

I lovelovelove this video and of course the song that made it happen. You can watch the video right here and I'll also leave some links to follow if you're interested in learning more about Gabrielle's upcoming debut album 'English Rain'. That's something I honestly cannot wait to hear.
